BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda wrestling team had a banner day Saturday, qualifying five wrestlers for the WIAA Division 2 Richland Center Sectional.

The top two wrestlers at each weight class advance to the Feb. 21 sectional tournament. Qualifiers include Jeremy Rosheisen at 125 pounds, Devon Seitz (140), Ethan Voights (160), Dan Douglas (171) and Cody Spooner (189).

Seitz and Douglas wrestled their way to regional championships. Seitz defeated Clinton's Dane Brandl, 11-9, in the title match to lock up a sectional bid.

In dominating fashion, Douglas defeated Clinton's Shane Brandl, 13-3, in his championship match.

Rosheisen wrestled his way back to second place. He lost a close title match, 7-5, to Clinton's Bryan Bahn, but was assured of second since he had defeated Whitwewater's Andy Halfmann earlier in the tournament.

Voights won by forfeit over Jase George of Big Foot-Williams Bay. He then defeated JJ Marlcham, 6-0, in a second-place match. In the title match at 189, Spooner lost to Whitwewater's Nick Romani, 10-5. However, Spooner had already defeated Big Foot-Williams Bay's Matt Fogerty, so he was guaranteed second.

The Cardinals had three wrestlers who just missed the sectional cut. Brodhead senior Mitchel Wieseneberg (119), Aaron Pratt (130) and heavyweight Dylan Severson all finished third. Wieseneberg lost a championship match to Clinton's Brandon Wixom, 9-1. In the second-place wrestleback, Wieseneberg lost a thrilling overtime match to Whitewater's Luis Valadez, 6-5.
