Brodhead-Juda sweeps Beloit Turner

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda boys track team secured a razor-thin win over Beloit Turner, 74-72, in a Rock Valley South Conference meet Tuesday.

The Cardinals girls had an easier time, winning 83-62.

Junior Koel Steinman cruised to victory in the 400 meters in 54.9 seconds. The 3,200 meter run belonged to the Cardinals' Dylan Johnson in 11:02.9.

Brodhead-Juda won two relays. The 1,600 unit (Steinman, David Earlywine, Levi Frost, and Dillon Larson) clocked in at 3:40.3 and the 3,200 crew (Earlywine, Steinman, Larson, and Johnson) triumphed in 8:43.2.

Senior Joey Jordan won the triple jump at 41 feet, 9 1/2 inches while junior Logan Mauer took the shot put (39-11) and junior Gavin Baade won the discus (117-11).

In girls competition, Brodhead-Juda senior Heather Clankie swept the shot put (38-5) and the discus (135-3). Junior Mariah Ahrens had a first-place high jump of 4-10.

Sophomore Gene Balch

won the pole vault (7-3). Senior Camilla Klar finished first in the 1600 (5:52.9) and sophomore Meg Duffield captured the 400 (1:08.6).

Junior Morgan Adkins won the 800 in 2:46.6. The Cardinals also took first place in both of the hurdles with junior Maggie Douglas (19.01 seconds in the 100 hurdles) and sophomore Katy Ryser (55.9 in the 300 hurdles).

Duffield, Ahrens, Ryser, and Adkins combined to win the 3200 relay in 11:31.5 while Adkins, Ahrens, Duffield and sophomore Jacque Conway took the 1600 relay in 4:36.4.
