BRODHEAD - Brodhead-Juda sophomore Logan Maurer finished second place in the shot put at the Rock Valley Conference meet Saturday, May 11 with a throw of 52 feet, 5 1/2 inches.
Both the Brodhead-Juda boys and girls track teams finished ninth place in the conference meet. The East Troy boys track team outdistanced Whitewater for the team title 158-118. The Cardinal boys finished ninth (29). In the girls' meet, East Troy ran away with the championship 184-111. The Cardinals finished with 25 points and just four top six finishes.
Brodhead-Juda sophomore Gavin Baade took fourth in the discus (144-6). Brodhead-Juda junior Dylan Johnson finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run (4:46.79) and seventh in the 3,200 (10:38.71).
The Cardinals' 1,600 relay team of sophomore C.J. Hack, senior Dillon Larson, junior Clay Welte and freshman Jakob Harper took fifth with a time of 3:42.78. Hack teamed with Carter Jorgenson, Koel Steinmann and Johnson to finish fifth in the 3,200 relay (8:35.2).
The Brodhead-Juda girls track team's 3,200 relay team of sophomore Morgan Adkins, junior Meg Duffield, junior Camilla Klar and freshman Taylor Bluemel finished second (10:054.76).
Brodhead-Juda girls track coach Ken Peterson said the 3,200 relay team wanted to see if they could compete for state.
"That was one of our goals to see if they can perform at that level," Peterson said. "They are looking forward to it. It was just a fantastic time. They were just a few tenths of a second away from a school record."
Brodhead junior Carly Mohns took third in the shot put with a season-best throw of 36-8 1/4 and junior Alicia Condon was sixth in the discus (105-2). The other top six finish for the Cardinals came from Duffield in the 400 (1:05.36).
Peterson is confident Mohns can make more improvement as she focuses more on the shot put.
"She (Mohns) has not been emphasizing that with all of her events she is in," he said. "She will now."
