Brodhead-Juda boys, girls run to titles

BRODHEAD - Both the Brodhead-Juda boys and girls cross country teams ran to championships at the five-team Brodhead Invitational on Thursday.

Brodhead-Juda's Michael Hatter won the boys 5,000-meter race with a time of 17 minutes, 31 seconds, which was 40 seconds ahead of Evansville's Bennedict Gallagher.

The Cardinals five runners place in the top 12 to roll to the team title 36-53 over second-place Beloit Turner.

The Brodhead-Juda girls team edged Evansville 44-46 for the title.

The Brodhead-Juda boys showed a lot of depth in the season-opening race. Jacob Staffon took sixth (18:33), Trenton Condon placed eighth (19:07), senior Hunter Whitledge finished ninth (19:11), and Carter Urness took 12th (19:41).

The girls were led by Madelynn McIntyre, who won the race in 20:37. Senior Madee Harding finished fourth (22:07), senior Cora Purdue took ninth (23:09), sophomore Carissa Purdue placed 13th (23:50), and senior Morgan Tresemer was 17th (24:41).
