Brodhead dominates Turner; Pec survives

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals had control all night, knocking off Beloit Turner (0-8 Rock Valley South) in straight sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16.

"It's been baby steps a lot of the time, but we're gradually getting better," head coach Erin Kammerer said. "Our goal tonight was to come together and step out of our box and support each other and not just themselves. I think they did that."

Brodhead senior Mariah Mohns had six kills and two blocks, sophomore Heather Shanks had three aces and sophomore Taylor Douglas finished her night with nine assists, four aces and seven digs.

Freshman Carly Mohns led Brodhead (4-4) in kills with nine and fellow freshman Rachel Heller had seven digs.

"They're coming along," Kammerer said of her four freshmen. "They have some good leaders that are showing them the right way to go. They are definitely helping us."

The Cardinals next travel to Orfordville Parkview Thursday.

Pecatonica 3, Barneveld 2

BARNEVELD - There was a lot of volleyball to watch Tuesday night in Barneveld as the Pecatonica Vikings defeated the Eagles in a match that went the maximun five games and featured extra play in game four.

The Vikings outlasted the Eagles, 25-11, 25-21, 13-25, 30-32, 15-13 behind 12 kills and 15 assists from senior Ellie Gifford. The Vikings also got contributions from sophomore Lizzy Britt with seven digs, junior Michala Boese with six aces and senior Maggie Marion with two blocks.

Pecatonica (3-6) will host conference leader Albany on Thursday.

Marshall 3, New Glarus 1

MARSHALL - The Glarner Knights got a Game 2 victory, but couldn't overtake the Marshall Cardinals in games three and four, losing 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22 Tuesday.

Senior Mara Gartzke paced New Glarus with 12 kills and 12 digs. Senior Lauren Narveson also came up big for the Glarner Knights with 17 assists and four aces. Junior Jenna Romich registered five blocks while senior Alexa Secord provided four aces to lead the Glarner Knights.

"It was a really tight game the whole time," New Glarus head coach Lacy Bloedorn said. "We would dig ourselves in a hole and we would get out."

New Glarus (1-7) will compete in the Darlington Invitational Saturday.

Albany 3, Monticello 0

MONTICELLO - The Albany Comets remain undefeated in the Six Rivers East following a 25-10, 25-16, 25-21 win at Monticello Tuesday.

Senior Sydney Bump had a hand in almost every offensive and defensive category for the Comets. Bump had 19 kills, 17 assists, three blocks, and five aces. Senior Courtney Pfeuti delivered 37 assists for Albany (9-0).

The Ponies got a team-high six kills from senior Taylor Klitzke, plus 16 assists from junior C.J. Dilley. Senior Taylor Pfeuti added two blocks and eight digs for Monticello (3-6).

On Thursday Albany will travel to Pecatonica and Monticello will visit Argyle.
