MCFARLAND - The Brodhead girls basketball team continues its pursuit of an unbeaten season after rolling to a 59-41 win over McFarland Friday, Feb. 7.
Brodhead (16-0, 11-0 Rock Valley South), ranked No. 2 in the WisSports.net Division 3 Coaches poll, raced out to a 16-4 lead over the Spartans in the first quarter. Brodhead senior Carly Mohns, a University of Iowa recruit, scored a team-high 13 points. Senior Rachel Heller also scored 13 points. Sophomore Kylie Moe added 12 points for the Cardinals. The Cardinals are 37-1 the past two years in the regular season and can lock up a fourth straight conference title with one more win.
Riverdale 45, Pecatonica 37
BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica is still searching for its first win, but coach Scott Carlson likes the way his team has improved.
The latest example in that development for the Vikings came in a 45-37 loss to Riverdale Friday. Pecatonica (0-17, 0-8 Six Rivers East) trailed Riverdale by just five points at the half. Riverdale outscored the Vikings 14-8 in the third quarter.
"It's probably the most intense we have played this year," Carlson said. "It's huge. We are picking it up and playing better. We have to get that win for the proof. We just have to get over the hump and get that first win."
Pecatonica's Emily Scoville scored a team-high 11 points and Clara Moen added eight points.
