McFARLAND - The McFarland Spartans went on a 9-0 run over the final 90 seconds, capped off by Kaitlynn Eversoll's 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining to edge the Brodhead Cardinals, 58-57 Tuesday night.
Sophomore Mariah Ahrens scored 20 points to lead Brodhead. The Cardinals also got 16 points from senior Mariah Mohns and 12 points from sophomore Taylor Douglas.
Brodhead (2-4, 2-1 Rock Valley South) will next play in the Cuba City Classic December 29 and 30.
Juda 58, Monticello 50
MONTICELLO - Held to just two points in the first half, junior Ellen Kiser bounced back with 17 second-half points to lead the Juda Panthers to a 58-50 win over the Monticello Ponies in a Six Rivers East conference game Tuesday.
Kiser's 19 points led all scorers, while senior Alycia Grenzow added 14 points and senior Aly Pierce dropped in 10 for the Panthers.
"We just got into foul trouble by putting them in the double bonus in the fourth quarter and we had way too many turnovers," said Monticello head coach Tom Eveland.
Kiser made the Ponies pay for it by making seven of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
The Ponies were led by junior Desiree Marti with 12 points.
Juda (5-3, 2-1 Six Rivers East) will participate in the Palmyra-Eagle Tournament December 29 and 30. Monticello (1-4, 1-2 Six Rivers East) will host Highland January 3.
Belleville 51, New Glarus 28
BELLEVILLE - The Belleville Wildcats remained undefeated with a 51-28 win over the visiting New Glarus Glarner Knights Tuesday in Capitol South Conference girls basketball.
The Wildcats (5-0) jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed. Quinn Rear led Belleville with 16 points.
The Knights were led by senior Lauren Narveson with nine points. Junior Alycia Atwell and sophomore Anya Schween each scored six points for New Glarus.
The Glarner Knights fell to 0-2 in the Capitol South and 2-3 overall. New Glarus will travel to Evansville for a non-conference game Monday.
Pecatonica 67, Argyle 54
BLANCHARDVILLE - Senior Alisha Esselstein scored a game-high 18 points, including three, 3-pointers and senior Ellie Gifford contributed a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to help the Pecatonica Vikings get their first win of the season, 67-54 over the Argyle Orioles Tuesday in Six Rivers East conference action.
After taking a 31-26 halftime lead, the Vikings had their biggest quarter of the year, scoring 23 points in the third quarter.
Sophomore Kayla Ostby scored 14 points to lead Argyle. Junior Danielle Treuthardt scored 12 points for the Orioles, who went 22-36 from the free-throw line for the game.
Pecatonica (1-4, 1-1 Six Rivers East) will travel to Riverdale for a non-conference game Tuesday. Argyle (0-6, 0-3 Six Rivers East) will travel to Madison Abundant Life Christian for a non-conference game on Monday.
Albany 50, Shullsburg 34
SHULLSBURG - A 25-11 third quarter advantage was the difference in the game as the Albany Comets captured a 50-34 non-conference win over the Shullsburg Miners.
Senior Hayli Peach dropped in a pair of 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 14 points for the Comets. senior Hillary Best chipped in with 11 points and senior Sydney Bump scored 10 points for Albany. The Shullsburg Miners were led by Blaire Lutes with 10 points.
Albany (5-2, 1-1 Six Rivers East) will host Belmont in a non-conference game Tuesday. Shullsburg (4-3, 1-1 Six Rivers West) will face Warren, Illinois at home Monday.
