FORT ATKINSON - A big second quarter sparked the Cheesemakers to their eighth win of the season, 60-31 over conference foe Fort Atkinson.

After jumping out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter, Monroe rattled off a 19-4 spurt throughout the second to give itself a comfortable 23-point cushion at halftime, 33-10.

"We challenged the guys at half to be better in the first three minutes of the second half," Monroe head coach Pat Murphy said.

Fort Atkinson scored three quick baskets to start the third quarter, but by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the Cheesemakers led 52-21.

"All 14 of our guys deserve to get out there and play. They all did a great job tonight," Murphy said.

Eleven of the Cheesemakers' 14 players scored in the game. Kevin Frint led Monroe with 16 points despite getting off to a slow start. Michael Barrett scored 12 points, Bryan Tordoff had nine and Alex Barenklau added seven for Monroe.

"I saw a lot of nice things out of a lot of guys. Alex Capesius didn't score much (two points), but he took some good shots. Tyler Barta hit a big 3-pointer for us in the second quarter and I thought Kyle Klinzing did some real nice things in the post," Murphy said.

The Cheesemakers hit four 3s in the game and went 14-for-19 from the free throw line. Fort Atkinson was just 4 of 7 from the charity stripe.

Monroe (8-1, 5-1), ranked No. 13 in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll, hosts Milwaukee School of Languages tonight at 6 p.m.
