Boys seedings arrive

MONROE - The WIAA released the boys basketball playoff brackets Sunday.

All first-round games will be 7 p.m. Feb. 27, with the second round taking place March 2 and the regional title games March 3.

The seventh-seeded Cheesemakers will host 10th-seeded Oregon in the opening round of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs. The winner will play the No. 2 seed, Stoughton, which received a first-round bye. Monroe (12-9) knocked off Stoughton (14-7) at home 69-68 on Feb. 9 and swept Oregon (8-12) this season.

In Division 3, 10th-seeded Brodhead (7-13) will travel to seventh-seeded Dodgeville (9-11), with the winner advancing to face second-seeded Edgerton (16-4), which received an opening round bye.

New Glarus (21-0) gained a No. 1 seed in the Division 4 bracket and earned a bye into the second round. The Glarner Knights will host the winner of eighth-seeded Belleville (8-4) and No. 9 Dodgeland (10-11) in round two. Earlier this season, New Glarus, the top-ranked team in Division 4 according to the Associated Press, swept rival Belleville by an average score of 26 points over the course of two meetings.

Also, in Division 4, No. 4 Darlington (14-7) received a bye and will host the winner of fifth-seeded Cuba City (14-7) and 12th-seeded Boscobel (2-18). The Redbirds split the season series with the Cubans in the SWAL, while both teams swept Boscobel.

In Division 5, there are no first-round byes. Pecatonica (15-6) received a No. 2 seed and hosts No. 15 Central Wisconsin Christian (2-18) in the first round. The winner will face either seventh-seeded Fall River (12-8) or 10th-seeded Juda (6-15). On the other side of the regional, No. 6 Black Hawk (14-6) hosts No. 11 Albany (7-15), and the winner will take on either defending state champion and third-seeded Barneveld (13-8) or No. 14 Madison Country Day (4-17).

Elsewhere in Division 5, No. 8 Monticello (8-12) will host Wayland Academy (8-7), Argyle (6-15) travels to Rio (16-4) and last year's state runner-up, Shullsburg (10-11), received the No. 8 seed and hosts Benton (13-9).
