ARGYLE - The Orioles pulled of possibly their biggest win of the year, ousting Six Rivers East champion Monticello 33-32 on Friday night.

Andy Bohlman had 11 points and Kyle Geissbuhler added eight points in the game as Argyle used solid defense and clutch scoring down the stretch.

Both teams finished the first quarter tied at 6-6, but the Ponies took a 19-14 lead at halftime. In the third, the game got interesting.

Geissbuhler hit two 3-pointers in the frame, and Argyle went into the fourth with a two-point lead. Earlier in the season, the Orioles hung with Monticello for much of the game before losing.

This time around, Argyle kept its composure down the stretch and held off the top team in conference.

Tyler Ritschard scored 10 points for Monticello, and both Corey McGowan and Brandon Holz added seven.

The Ponies were the top scoring team in conference this year, and Holz was usually the big difference maker. However, the Orioles kept Holz at bay and hung on to the win.

Albany 45, Pecatonica 32

ALBANY - The Comets used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the Vikings on Friday night.

Pecatonica took a 13-9 lead in the first quarter, but Albany worked its way back to hold a 19-18 advantage by halftime.

"Pecatonica was playing really well to start off the game," Comets head coach Derik Dascher said. "We have had eight days off now since our last game. You kind of wonder if that maybe had a little to do with how sluggish we came out to start."

The score remained a one-point game until the fourth quarter, when Albany started picking up some buckets in transition.

Adam Zurfluh scored 10 points for Albany. Teammate Jake Lincicum had nine and both Brandon Pfeuti and T.J. Zweifel scored seven.

For Pecatonica, Milton Kurschner scored seven points.

Pecatonica has the weekend to prepare for Monticello in the first round of the WIAA Division 4 playoffs that starts on Tuesday. Albany will host Juda.

Brodhead 57, Palmyra-Eagle 41

PALMYRA - The Cardinals jumped out on Palmyra-Eagle from the tipoff. Brodhead went on a 15-2 run in the first quarter and led 26-13 at halftime.

Sophomore big man J.J. Panoske scored 17 points, junior guard Jacob Cole had 15 and senior Ryan Miller added 14 in the game.

"We talked about jumping out to a big lead early on," Cardinals head coach Brian Kammerer said. "We came out ready to play and took control of the game."

Brodhead dipped into its bench throughout the game, which Kammerer said was big for his team in its final regular season game.

"It was a good night to get guys some varsity action," he said.

Brodhead hosts McFarland in the first round of the WIAA playoffs on Tuesday, and Kammerer said after an early season loss to the Spartans, his squad will not be looking ahead to future rounds.

"We have to get it done. (McFarland) is a good team."

Darlington 68, Fennimore 49

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds dominated from the start, rolling to a 40-23 halftime lead.

Alex Erickson (25 points) and Ethan Pickett (21 points) scored all of Darlington's 19 first quarter points. Pickett scored nine of those via the 3-point variety.

"They came out to play and got it done," Darlington head coach Michael Hopkins said.

The Redbirds host conference rival Mineral Point on Tuesday to open up the playoffs.

"Even though we won both games, we pulled away in both in the fourth quarter. The other six quarters it was pretty even," Hopkins said. "(Mineral Point) is a good team. They are capable and are streaky so we have to defend well. We can't take them lightly."

Watertown Luther Prep 79, New Glarus 64

WATERTOWN - The Knights found themselves in trouble late in the second half.

After sticking even with Watertown Luther Prep through halftime of the Capitol Conference crossover, 31-31, New Glarus allowed 28 points in the third quarter and trailed 59-45.

Jake Bast scored 17 points, Ryan Bright had 14 and Cassidy Flannery added 11 for the Knights. New Glarus had eight players score in the game, with six different players connecting for a total of 10 3-pointers.

New Glarus will host rival Belleville in the first round of the WIAA Division 3 state tournament on Tuesday.
