BOYS BASKETBALL: Redbirds win; NG, Albany fall

LAKE MILLS - Lakeside Lutheran hit nine 3-pointers and handed New Glarus' boys baksetball team its first loss of the season Thursday, 92-70.

New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said Lakeside Lutheran likely shot 65 percent or better.

"I knew they would be tough," Sysko said. "I'm happy with our offense. I don't know what we could have done differently."

Lakeside jumped out to a 25-20 first-quarter lead and held a 48-34 halftime lead after shooting 9-for-11 in the second quarter.

New Glarus (8-1, 1-0 Capitol South) made eight 3-pointers and had four players in double figures, led by senior Logan Lockard with a team-high 16 points.

Jake Bast scored 15 points, Cassidy Flannery added 14 and Jeremy Langfoss chipped in 10.

BARNEVELD 47, ALBANY 26

ALBANY - The Comets rallied from a 12-point second half deficit, but couldn't get over the hump in a 47-26 loss to Barneveld.

Albany (3-5, 1-2) trailed 22-10 at halftime, and stormed back by scoring 10 straight points to start the third quarter, cutting the Eagles' lead to 22-20. Barneveld's defense clamped down from there, holding the Comets to just six points the rest of the game.

"Everything was going our way and then the well dried up," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "I was happy with our defense and intensity."

Albany junior Bryce Hulbert scored a team-high seven points. Senior Mike Elmer added six points and T.J. Zweifel had five.

DARLINGTON 67, IOWA-GRANT 43

LIVINGSTON - The Redbirds won their third straight game. Darlington 4-5, 1-3 SWAL) raced out to a 24-5 first quarter lead and cruised the rest of the way. Redbird sophomore Alex Erickson scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Redbirds. Darlington senior Ethan Pickett added 18 points.
