SPRING GREEN - Monroe High School senior Devon Boeck shot a 4-over-par 76 to place second in the Badger South Conference golf tournament and lead the Cheesemakers to an overall third-place finish as a team in the conference.
Monroe entered the tournament in sixth place in the South. The Cheesemakers shot 332 to take fourth overall in the conference tournament out of 14 teams at the House on the Rock Golf Course in Spring Green. However, in the final Badger South standings, Monroe finished third behind conference champion Madison Edgewood (311 in Tuesday's conference meet) and Milton (320).
The Cheesemakers finish in the final standings was based on a combination of dual match wins in conference added with the points at the conference tournament. The Cheesemakers received two points from a 2-4 dual match record and five points for taking third at the conference tournament. The only team from the North that finished ahead of the Cheesemakers was Reedsburg, which took third overall (331).
"It was perfect timing to start playing our best golf," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "It's when you want to start playing your best at conference."
Boeck posted four birdies on his way to the second-place finish.
"The confidence is way back," Boeck said. "I've been working really hard on short game drills in practice."
Rindy said Boeck was solid hitting the ball down the fairway and never got into trouble.
"He's just consistent, and it paid off for him," Rindy said.
Monroe junior Collyn Wilde shot an 83, and sophomore Jack Rogerson carded an 86. Freshman Noah Becker finished with an 87 to round out the top four for the Cheesemakers.
