BARABOO - Monroe sophomore Olivia Bobak tossed a no-hitter in just her second start of the season to lead the Cheesemakers to a 10-0 five-inning win over Baraboo on Thursday.
For Monroe (3-0, 1-0 Badger South) it was the start of a four-game stretch in three days. Monroe will host Madison Edgewood at 5 p.m. today at Twining Park and will then host Beaver Dam in a doubleheader Saturday.
"It's a huge accomplishment for a sophomore in her third varsity game to throw a no-hitter," Monroe coach Joe O'Leksy said. "I'm very proud that she was able to finish the game strong."
The Cheesemakers pounded out 14 hits in five innings and every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit.
The Cheesemakers jumped out to an early lead with a two-run first.
Monroe senior Carly Upmann broke the game open when she crushed a two-out two-run home run to right center in the fourth to help the Cheesemakers take a 6-0 lead.
"It was just a monster shot," O'Leksy said of Upmann's home run.
Monroe put the game away with a four-run fifth. Senior Jessie Bennett and junior Madison Katzenberger were each 2-for-3. Bobak went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Upmann also knocked in two runs. Both senior Lexi Hilliard and junior Alysha Witt also went 2-for-4.
"It was a solid all-around performance," O'Leksy said. "We got great pitching, and we had 14 hits in five innings which is great. We didn't have any errors and our defense played really well."
