MILTON - Milton junior Morgan Blumer scored a game-high 32 points as the Red Hawks knocked off Monroe 56-45 Friday night.

Monroe (0-3) and Milton entered the fourth quarter tied at 42. The Cheesemakers took a short-lived 44-42 lead. Blumer scored 19 of the Red Hawks' points in the second half. She scored 10 of her team's points in the fourth quarter when the Red Hawks outscored the Cheesemakers 14-3.

"We knew coming in that she was the one we had to stop," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "We didn't do a good enough job stopping and containing her."

Monroe senior Brooke McBain scored a team-high 20 points and sophomore Taylor Barrett had 17.

It was a five-point game with 1 minute, 13 seconds left.

"We had to pressure the ball and foul and they scored six points," Mathiason said.

The Cheesemakers made 10 of 12 free throws and made three 3-pointers. McBain hit two 3-pointers and senior Ashley Segner had one.

Monroe hosts Elkhorn at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.

"We can't hang our heads and feel sorry for ourselves," Mathiason said. "We have to find ways to improve and come back to practice on Monday and get ready for Elkhorn."
