Blues split two games

MONROE - The Monroe Blues semi-pro adult full-check hockey team of the Great Lakes Hockey League split two games last weekend.

The Fond du Lac Bears skated to a 9-3 win over the Blues on Friday. Monroe scored two goals in the second period from LP Govain and Travis Rayala. The goals were assisted by Trent Einbeck and Scott Perkins to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Monroe's last goal was short-handed from Tom Glomski on assists by Rayala and Perkins. Goalie Derek Bishop turned away 49 shots.

On Saturday, the Blues skated to a 4-2 win over the Depere Deacons. The Blues out-shot DePere 29-17. Ian Schachti had Monroe's first goal unassisted in the first period. DePere scored a short-handed goal to tie it up. Cody Larson scored a goal to finish up the first period to take the lead for good on assists from Einbeck and Carl Vanko. In the first minute of the second period, Monroe's Eric Bush scored with assists going to Gottlieb Brandli III and Jordan Graber. Later in the second, Phil Hoss scored on an assist by Larson. Jeff Bartholemen had 17 saves.

Monroe will host the Fox Cities Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at SLICE.
