ALBANY - Albany volleyball coach Connie Wunschel thinks that Black Hawk may have its best defensive team yet.
Black Hawk (4-0 Six Rivers East) continued its winning streak after defeating the Comets in four games, 25-11, 17-25, 25-20, 25-16, Tuesday night.
"My God, they are tall," Wunschel said. "When you have girls that average 5-6 on your team, it's like your playing against giants. I think this by far is their strongest defensive team. That is what impressed me the most about them."
Black Hawk senior Kim Wellnitz had 15 kills and senior Katie Place had 14 kills and four blocks.
Black Hawk junior setter Alyssa Piefer had a match-high 23 assists.
Albany (5-2, 3-1) was led by junior Sydney Bump, who had 19 kills and 36 digs.
Albany junior Hillary Best had a team-high 37 digs and junior Courtney Pfeuti had 18 assists. Senior Tamiya Sandlin had 34 digs and a game-saving save in the second game to keep a point alive.
"She helped keep the ball going," Wunschel said. "She will be bruised up tomorrow."
