MONROE - The postseason awards keep rolling in for Black Hawk senior Heath Butler after a stellar basketball season.

Butler was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year and first-team all-conference recently. Butler averaged 25.8 points and 11 rebounds per game and helped lead Black Hawk to a 14-11 record and a regional championship game where the Warriors lost to Williams Bay 57-53.

"It's a great honor to be named the player of the year in the Six Rivers," Butler said. "There are a lot of good players in the Six Rivers. The coaches felt I had the ability to be the player of the year."

Butler will play basketball at Madison College next year. Heath's mother, Angie Butler, also played college basketball at MATC.

"I just love the sport and I want to keep playing it," he said.

Butler is not playing baseball or going out for track so he can prepare to play college basketball.

"No one in my family went to the next level besides my mom," Butler said. "My sister Paige had a chance at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. I think it will be a great opportunity."

Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson was one of Butler's biggest supporters. He had a front row seat to see Butler play every game.

"I think Heath had a special year this year," Anderson said. "I think it was well deserved that he was the player of the year because I think he was the best player in the Six Rivers East Conference this year. In my opinion, he was the best Division 5 player I saw all year."

The other first-team all-conference players selected include Monticello senior Ben May, Albany junior Tyler Dahl, Pecatonica sophomore A.J. Hendrickson and Juda sophomore Matt Schmitt. Hendrickson (22.7 ppg) helped the Vikings win the Six Rivers East Conference championship. May carried a big load for Monticello averaging 20.2 ppg. Dahl (18.9 ppg) helped lead the Comets to a third-place finish in the conference (8-4). Schmitt (17 ppg) was a catalyst in leading a big turnaround for the Panthers. Juda finished the season 8-15 after just winning one game last year.

Barneveld had two players named second-team all-conference, including senior Brycen Sorensen and sophomore Matthew Myers. The other second-team all-conference players are Juda senior Cory Segner, Argyle junior Riley Ostby and Pecatonica sophomore Logan Green.

Pecatonica's Matt Fink was named the conference's coach of the year. Fink guided the Vikings to a 19-6 mark and a conference title. The Vikings lost a regional championship game to Shullsburg 73-54.

Black Hawk had two honorable mention all-conference players including seniors Troy Wellnitz and Shawn Woodruff. The other honorable mention all-conference players chosen were Albany senior Mitchell Trow, Pecatonica junior Brooks Chandler, Argyle junior Kyle Emberson and Barneveld senior Wes Williams.
