Black Hawk tops Argyle

ARGYLE - The third time was the charm for the Black Hawk High School volleyball team Thursday night.

Black Hawk junior Sam Lovelace had a team-high 13 kills and seven aces to lead the Warriors to a 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 win over Argyle in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal. It's the third time Black Hawk has played Argyle this season and the first time the Warriors have beaten the Orioles.

Black Hawk (10-6) advances to play at top-seeded Burlington Catholic Central in a regional championship match Saturday.

"We knew it was going to be tough," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "It's hard to beat a team three times. Black Hawk came out to play. We kind of fell apart. We had too many missed serves and errors."

Black Hawk's Jordyn Delzer had 10 assists and three blocks.

Argyle sophomore Ashley Bruehlman had 11 kills and five aces. Junior teammate Kayla Butler-Paulson racked up 26 assists and 22 digs.

Argyle finished the season as the Six Rivers East Conference champions with a 14-5 overall record.

"I told them to keep their head high," Butler said. "They accomplished a lot this year. No one expected us to be conference contenders let alone win the conference."



SOUTHWESTERN 3, PECATONICA 0

HAZEL GREEN - The Wildcats ousted the Vikings from the WIAA Division 4 tournament with a 25-8,

25-12, 25-9 victory.

"Southwestern was a good team," Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard said. "I definitely give them a lot of credit. We struggled in serve receive, getting the ball up."

Junior Liz Tisch paced the Vikings with three kills, one ace and five assists. Sam Mabin added six digs, one ace and one block.

"I'm very proud of the girls and all they've accomplished this year," Leonard said. "It didn't end how we wanted it to, but they've done a lot more than I think people expected of them."

Pecatonica finishes the season at 11-7. The Vikings improved from 5-18 in 2014.



Cuba City 3,

New Glarus 0

CUBA CITY - Top-seeded Cuba City rolled past New Glarus in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal.

New Glarus senior Maddie Macht had a team-high 13 kills and 15 digs in a 25-15, 25-15, 25-12 loss to the Cubans. The Glarner Knights finish the season 12-16.

"I asked the girls to compete and they did," New Glarus coach Kelsey Schmit said. "They covered the floor well on defense, hit the ball aggressively and placed the ball in holes on the other side of the net. I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with these young ladies."

New Glarus senior Alex Nealis dished out 25 assists, and senior Vanessa Narveson posted a team-best 18 digs. Junior teammate Devon Boll added seven kills.
