SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk High School girls basketball team went cold from the field in the second half but got past Juda 44-23 Thursday night to remain unbeaten in the Six Rivers East Conference.

Aleigha Sigafus paced the Warriors with 17 points, and Hannah Herbst added 10.

The Warriors (6-4, 4-0) led by as many as 15 points in the first half and had a 29-15 lead at halftime, but the Panthers drew within six points in the second half.

"We shot the ball well and got the ball to the right spots," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said of the first half.

"In the second half, we really struggled to make any shots. We had three field goals, but we did end up shooting 9 of 12 from the free-throw line in the second half. That was huge because Juda made a nice run at the end."

MacKenzie Byrne and Chelsea Burkhalter each scored 10 points to pace Juda.

Argyle 42

ALBANY - Albany held on late in the second half to defeat the Orioles for its second straight victory.

Argyle raced out to a 15-6 lead in the first half. The Comets closed the first half with a 19-3 run to take a seven-point lead at the half.

"The run at the end of the first half was a confidence-builder," Albany coach Adam Wamsley said. "You could see the girls playing with more confidence as the game went on. The girls showed resiliency and kept on fighting."

Wamsley was happy to see the Comets hang on late in the second half.

"It's been a long time since we have won back-to-back games," Wamsley said. "It was a big win for our program to keep that assertion for success going."

Albany (3-10, 2-2 Six Rivers East) made 14 of 25 free throws compared to Argyle, which made 14 of 19.

Argyle junior Kayla Butler-Paulson scored a team-high nine points, and Sarah Flannery added eight.
