EDGERTON - Black Hawk freshman Natalie Leuzinger scored a game-high 27 points, but it was her defense that helped the Warriors knock off Edgerton 56-49 on Saturday.

Edgerton's Bethany Oren scored 14 points in the first half to lead the Crimson Tide to a 27-21 lead at the half. Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan switched Leuzinger onto Oren on defense and Oren was held scoreless in the second half.

"It showed a lot about the girls going into the halftime down," Flanagan said. "To have the poise and perseverance that showed a lot about their basketball IQ. You can make all the adjustments you want as a coach. You have to have the kids with the basketball IQ to follow through."

Black Hawk (10-0, 4-0 Six Rivers East) outscored the Tide 35-22 in the second half. The Warriors used a press that forced the Tide into 26 turnovers.

"It was a great test for our press," Flanagan said. "I think we really wore them down and were in better condition."

Black Hawk freshman Hannah Butler added 14 points and junior Hannah Herbst chipped in seven points. Leuzinger knocked down three 3-pointers and had seven rebounds. Butler also hit three 3-pointers.
