Black Hawk runs to sweep at Cassville

CASSVILLE - The Black Hawk girls and boys track teams each won titles at the Cassville Invitational on Tuesday night.

The Black Hawk girls track team just slipped past Monticello, 78-72 to win the title.

Monticello senior Rachel Nelson won two individual events including the 200-meter dash (28.90 seconds), the 400 (1 minute, 6.78 seconds) and took third in the high jump (4-feet, 6 inches).

Monticello junior Kelsey Bernet won the 800 (2:36.57) and the 1,600 (5:57.85).

Nelson and Bernet also teamed up with Haylee Thoman and Lanie Havens to win the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:42.88.

"We are very proud of everyone on the team," Monticello coach Tim Dubel said. "Hard practices and hard work are really paying off."

Black Hawk senior Savannah Ernzen won the 300 low hurdles (:54.25) and took second in the 100 high hurdles (:16.93).

Black Hawk junior Katie Place won the triple jump (30-feet, 11 inches) and Nicole Kloepfer took first in the high jump (4-10).

The Warriors won the 400 relay and senior Hailey Meier finished second in the 100 (:13.59).

The Ponies' 800 relay team of Nicole Smith, Havens, Pia Naber and Annalisa Carlino finished first with a time of 2:09.38.

Havens won the 100 (:13.47) Carlino won the long jump (13-10), which was her first meet in that event.

Albany tied Belmont for third place. Albany has several athletes recovering from injuries including senior Devan Brugger, Jessica Mauerman and Jordan Mauerman.

Brugger, who is recovering from a strained quad and hamstring, won the pole vault by clearing 7-0.

"Our big concern right now is getting healthy," Albany coach Tony Brewer said.

Brewer said he wasn't concerned about points and rested some athletes for the conference meet in a couple weeks and a meet at Cuba City Thursday.

Albany senior Nicolette Blumer took second in the 800.

In the boys meet, Black Hawk's Tyler Whalen finished first in both the 200 (:24.35) and 400 (:55.0) ahead of Albany's Tyler Conley who took second in both events.

The Warriors outdistanced Cassville, 102-96 for the title.

Cody Foster took first in the 110 high hurdles (:18.47) and second in the 300 hurdles (:47.30). Black Hawk junior Ben Stauffacher won the 100 (:12.36) and Shane Jackson finished first in the shot put (43-0 1/2).

The Warriors took second place in the 3,200 relay (9:23.53), 400 relay (:51.0) and 1,600 relay (3:48.63).

Christian Krahenbuhl cleared 5-4 in the high jump to finish second place.

Jarrod Mair finished second in the 3,200 (15:20). Jake Meier added a second place in the triple jump (34-11).

The Monticello boys track team finished fifth overall. Monticello sophomore Reid Zanoya won the 1,600 with a time of 5:12.34.

This was Zanoya's first race back since breaking his arm.

The Albany boys team took fifth place. The Comets' 3,200 relay team of Jake Short, Drew Mather, Trent Kuebli and Reece Whitehead finished first with a time of 9:22.

Albany also won the 1,600 relay with a team of Travis Helland, Conley, Nick Patchen and Simon Lundegard with a time of 3:46.
