Black Hawk falls short

SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk High School girls basketball team battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit and cut Dodgeville's lead to four points in the second half before the comeback fell short in a 52-45 loss Tuesday night.

"Any time they needed a play they got it," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "You hope these games will make you better. Come tournament time, we hope we are battle-tested enough to make a run."

Dodgeville's Hannah Jones scored a game-high 17 points. Teammate Kara Crowley added 16 points and made three 3-pointers in the first half to help the Dodgers take a 24-14 lead.

Black Hawk (4-3, 2-0 Six Rivers East) had more offensive rebounds than the Dodgers 8-7 and only committed nine turnovers.

However, Dodgeville made 12 of 20 free throws compared to the Warriors, which were 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.

"We are fouling and sending teams to the line too much," Flanagan said. "That has to be a point of emphasis for everyone right now. We are battling. We are just getting out of position and that is hurting us. If we could have kept them off the line in the second half we could have made it closer."

Black Hawk senior Aleigha Sigafus scored a team-high 14 points, and sophomore Hannah Herbst added 13 points and drilled two 3-pointers. Senior teammate Tatum Jackson added 11 points and also made two of the Warriors' six 3-pointers.

In other action, Brodhead, ranked No. 7 in the WisSports.net Division 3 Coaches poll, cruised to a

Also, Boscobel defeated Darlington 40-38.
