MINERAL POINT - The Black Hawk boys basketball team had been knocking on the door in previous years to win the Mineral Point Tournament.

It all came together Wednesday as Black Hawk sophomore Conner Meyer scored a team-high 23 points, and junior C.J. Leuzinger added 15 points to propel the Warriors to a 65-61 win over Mineral Point for the tournament title. Black Hawk (6-1) had played in the championship game three of the past four years.

"It's significant that we were able to win it," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "Hopefully, that will be invaluable. We played two tough and close games and to come out on top will boost their confidence that what we are doing is working."

Black Hawk defeated Platteville 56-50 Tuesday.

Meyer made four free throws in the final 2 minutes to seal the win over Mineral Point for the Warriors.

"He made four clutch free throws," Anderson said. "I thought we did a much better job in the second half of attacking the basket."

Black Hawk senior Josh Meier added 10 points, and junior Jett Rufenacht chipped in eight points.

The Warriors made six 3-pointers, including two each from Leuzinger and Rufenacht.

In other action, Richland Center defeated Brodhead 71-64 in the Cuba City Tournament.
