Black Hawk-Darlington takes second at invite

SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk-Darlington wrestling team had five wrestlers finish in the top three of their weight classes en route to a second-place finish at the Black Hawk Invitational on Saturday.

Black Hawk-Darlington's Kolbe Ubersox won a championship at 138 pounds. Teammates Cayden Milz (120) and junior Brody Milz (195) each took second. Black Hawk-Darlington's Paul King (126), Hunter Bredeson (132) each placed third.

Beloit Turner racked up 256 points to win the 15-team Black Hawk Invitational. Black Hawk-Darlington finished second (184) and Brodhead-Juda took fourth (148). Sugar River placed eighth (92.5) and Pecatonica-Argyle was 11th (44).

After a first-round bye, Ubersox pinned Richland Center's Warrick Wolff in 1 minute, 54 seconds. He then pinned Beloit Turner's Stefan Golden in 47 seconds. In the title match, Ubersox pinned Sugar River's John Chenoweth in 3:02.

At 120, Black Hawk-Darlington's Cayden Milz pinned Pecatonica-Argyle's Jaden Fish in 1:42 in his first match. He then beat Sugar River's Robert Chenoweth 10-2 in a semifinal match. Beloit Turner's Trey Bivens defeated Milz 11-5 in the title match.

Brody Milz was also dominant early on in the tournament. He pinned Cuba City-Benton--Southwestern's Jake Neis in 29 seconds in his first match and then pinned Brodhead-Juda's Nick Hack in 1:40 in a semifinal. Beloit Turner's Cody Krueger pinned Milz in the championship match in 3:45.

Brodhead-Juda senior Jackson Hauri captured the championship at 132 pounds. Hauri pinned Dodgeville's Riley Crook in 1:15 and won a semifinal match when Parkview's Conner Nolan dropped out due to an injury. Hauri edged Beloit Turner's Cole Walker in the title match 4-3.

Brodhead-Juda had five other wrestlers finish in the top three of their respective weight classes. Jayson Starr finished second at 106, and Theodore Policastro took second at 126. Russel Waeffler (113), Tyler Hoesly (182), Hack (195) each placed third.

Starr pinned Pecatonica-Argyle's Dawson Gross in 57 seconds in a quarterfinal match. He then pinned Dodgeville's Dylan Roen in 1:12 in the semifinal. In the championship match, Richland Center's Max Schmidt pinned Starr in 58 seconds.

Policastro also rolled early in the tournament. He pinned Waterloo's Anthony Zimdars in 2:39 and then cruised to a 12-3 win over River Ridge-Cassville's Caleb Lenzendorf. Sugar River's Justin Knoebl pinned Policastro in the title match in 2:29.

The other wrestlers in the top three for the Raiders were John Chenoweth (138), who finished second, and Robert Chenoweth (120), who took third.

John Chenoweth beat Madison Memorial's Kaden Reetz 7-3 in his first match. In the semifinals, he defeated Dodgeville's Isaac Grunow 7-1. Ubersox pinned Chenoweth in the championship match.
