JUDA - The Black Hawk and Juda volleyball teams split two matches during the Six Rivers East Conference season. The Warriors won the rubber match Thursday.
Senior Jordyn Delzer delivered 13 kills to help the Warriors escape Juda with a 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 win in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal match on Thursday.
"That was the best defensive game we played all season," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "We left it all on the court. We had to have a razor's edge to win, and we couldn't stay on it. I have to give Black Hawk a ton of credit. They played some great defense too. They just had a couple of more hitters. Rachel Wolff (Black Hawk's coach) really had them ready to go."
Third-seeded Black Hawk advances to play at top-seed Argyle in a regional championship at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Black Hawk junior Hannah Herbst dished out 21 assists. Sophomore Sydney Delzer had a team-high five blocks and four aces.
Junior Hailey Kammerer had 10 kills, four aces and three blocks for second-seeded Juda. Senior Alexis Goecks racked up 38 digs. Senior Chelsea Burkhalter added 13 assists, and senior Sara Jordan had 10 kills.
Argyle 3, Johnson Creek 1
ARGYLE - Top-seeded Argyle is still alive with a chance to win its first regional championship since 1990.
Junior Ashley Bruehlman slammed 16 kills, posted 28 digs and had four aces to lead the Orioles to a 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 27-25 victory over Johnson Creek in a Division 4 regional semifinal.
Argyle (16-7) advances to the regional final and will host Black Hawk on Saturday.
"It was a very special moment winning tonight," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "Once the final point was scored, the girls knew we would be playing for a regional championship. It's really been a long time since Argyle has played for a regional championship."
Argyle senior Kayla Butler-Paulson had a match-high 47 assists, six aces and 18 digs. Senior Sam Mick had 13 kills and three blocks. Dorissa DeNure added three blocks for the Orioles.
"They (Johnson Creek) had a couple of really good hitters," Butler said. "We kept working hard to pull away from them. They (Argyle) played with a lot of heart."
Argyle swept two matches from Black Hawk during the regular season. However, Butler knows that doesn't mean much come Saturday.
"It will be a tough game," Butler said. "Black Hawk is a very good team. Black Hawk has some great athletes."
Belleville 3, Brodhead 1
BELLEVILLE - Senior Krista Diaz had a match-high 20 kills to power Belleville to a 25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 25-16 win over Brodhead in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal.
Belleville advances to play at top-seed Wisconsin Heights in a regional title match on Saturday in Mazomanie.
Sophomore Abbey Johnson had 15 kills, 16 assists and 14 digs to lead the Cardinals. Junior Chandra Clark delivered seven kills and 14 assists. Junior Erin Nyhus notched two aces and Alexis Oliver added two blocks.
In another Division 3 regional semifinal, Iowa Grant edged Darlington 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13.
