BRODHEAD - The Black Hawk boys basketball team's offense was clicking on all cylinders as the Warriors rolled to a 69-48 win over Brodhead in a non-conference game on Saturday.
"You don't know how your team is going to respond to a Saturday afternoon game," Black Hawk coach Corey Manlick said. "We played well. The kids played unselfish and hit some outside shots. It was good to see. I like how aggressive we were penetrating. I liked how we worked the inside-outside game."
Black Hawk, (17-1, 9-1 Six Rivers East) ranked fifth in the Associated Press Division 5 state poll, jumped out to a 16-8 first-quarter lead and scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 15-point lead at the half.
Four Black Hawk players finished with 13 points including Cuyler Meier, Seth Butler, Coltin Piefer and Cory Rupnow. Sophomore Heath Butler added 12 points.
"Defensively, we got after them and made them earn their points," Manlick said.
Black Hawk will host Barneveld (11-8, 8-2) with a conference championship on the line on Tuesday. The Warriors have a one-game lead on the Eagles and could win the conference outright with a win.
"These kids are ready," Manlick said. "They know what is on the line. They know what Tuesday means for the Black Hawk boys basketball program. We haven't won a conference title in like five years."
