Black Hawk boys, girls take 2nd in Six Rivers meet

PLATTEVILLE - Nobody had a tougher day, or maybe better day, at the track than Monticello's Reid Zanoya, depending how you look at it. The lanky senior finished in second place on Monday in three races by a total of 5/100ths of a second at the Six Rivers Conference meet at UW-Platteville.

Zanoya lost to River Ridge junior Tom Osterday in the 100-meter dash 11.72 seconds to 11.73 seconds. Osterday also beat Zanoya in the 200 (23.54-23.56). Then, in the 400, Pecatonica-Argyle's Lucas Stoehr beat Zanoya by 2/100ths of a second (51.08-51.10). Zanoya also finished fourth in the long jump, accumulating 29 of Monticello's 53 points.

River Ridge won the boys meet with 164 team points. Black Hawk finished second (124), Pecatonica-Argyle was third (104); and Albany fourth (86). Monticello was seventh behind Benton-Scales Mound (62) and Cassville (60). Shullsburg was eighth (30) and Belmont was ninth (10).

Wyatt Massey won the 800 (2:02.96) and 1,600 (4:35.28) and Albany's Drew Mather finished first in the 3,200 (10:36.52).

Black Hawk's Kyle Woodruff won the 300 hurdles (44.01). Teammate Hayden Schliem was first in the high jump (6-feet even, beating River Ridge's Derek Sprague in the finals. Jake Meier won the long jump (22-01) by a full foot and Bryant Luhman won the shot put by over two feet (43-11.75). Black Hawk also got a win from it's 400 relay team.

Pecatonica-Argyle won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

On the girls side, River Ridge (137.5) beat out Black Hawk (114) and Albany (96.5) for the team title. Pecatonica-Argyle was fourth (87), Belmont fifth (79), Cassville sixth (54), Benton-Scales Mound seventh (35.5), Shullsburg eighth (32) and Monticello came in last (23.5).

Black Hawk freshman Jen Wellnitz edged senior teammate Rachel Rygh in the 100 by a tenth of a second (13.27-13.37). Wellnitz also won the long jump (15-11) by nearly four inches. Rygh went on to win the 200 (27.66) and 400 (1:03.09). Black Hawk also got a win from its 400 relay team, which is made up entirely of underclassmen.

Albany freshman Bailey Hlavachek won the 800 (2:28.14), 1,600 (5:32.79) and 3,200 (13:29.55). Teammate Rosy Bauman finished just 7/100ths behind Hlavachek in the 3,200. Hlavachek collected 30 individual points for her team.

Pecatonica-Argyle won the 1,600 and 3,200 relay.
