SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk junior Cody Foster may want to buy his offensive linemen steak after they paved the way as the Warriors pounded Cassville 27-0 Friday night at Murphy Field.
Foster, who rushed for 215 yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns, gave kudos to his offensive line for opening gaping holes.
"If it wasn't for the line, we wouldn't have won this game," Foster said. "I wouldn't have got my yards if the line didn't block for me."
If anyone was worried about Black Hawk (5-1) looking ahead to next week's Six Rivers showdown with Pecatonica-Argyle, those doubts were erased early on.
The Warriors on their opening drive capped a nine-play, 69-yard effort with a 6-yard TD run by Foster. The big play on the drive was converting on fourth-and-one from the Comets' 18-yard line.
"This was a must-win game," Foster said. "We didn't overlook them. We know we have Pec next week."
Later, Foster ripped off a 32-yard run to set up the next score. Black Hawk sophomore quarterback Michael Wolff tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Michael Place. Foster ran in the two-point conversion to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead with 8 minutes, 11 seconds left in the second quarter.
The rout was on when Black Hawk senior Mike Marty made an excellent read to intercept a pass and returned it 51-yards for a touchdown to give the Warriors a 21-0 lead.
Moments later, Foster bolted for a 26-yard TD run to give the Warriors a commanding 27-0 halftime lead.
"The fourth win in conference is always big, not that it guarantees you a playoff spot," Black Hawk coach Cory Milz said. "We need one more win to be playoff eligible."
Milz said he informed the Warriors before the game that to win the game, the line had to dominate the line.
The Warriors played without linebacker Shane Jackson, who was released from the UW Hospital Friday after battling a staph infection. Jackson's status for next week's game with Pecatonica-Argyle is uncertain.
