Black Hawk aces Ponies

MONTICELLO - Black Hawk senior Sammy Lovelace had 17 kills to propel the Warriors to a four-set win over Monticello on Thursday.

Monticello (5-5 Six Rivers East) edged Black Hawk in the first set 25-20. However, the Warriors rallied, winning three straight sets 25-11, 25-21, 25-22 to seal the victory in the match.

"They (Black Hawk) were much more consistent all night long," Monticello coach Scott Smice said. "We were up and down all night. We couldn't get over the hump."

Black Hawk junior Hannah Herbst racked up 28 assists and sophomore Sydney Delzer posted three blocks.

Smice noticed a difference after the Ponies won the first set.

"We always start out ready to play from the first whistle then I'm not sure what happens," Smice said. "We didn't keep that same intensity throughout the match. We definitely have to work on being more consistent and keep that intensity throughout the match."

Monticello sophomore Hannah Zanow delivered a team-high 12 kills for the Ponies. Senior teammate Jessie Garrison had 25 assists. Senior Chandler Hansen posted a team-best 21 digs and Alyssen Noriega had 18 digs. Monticello's Abby Wicker had a team-best four blocks.



Argyle 3, Juda 2

JUDA - The Argyle volleyball team clinched the Six Rivers East Conference championship by hanging on to tip Juda in five sets on Thursday.

Argyle junior Ashley Bruehlman had a monster match with a match-high 22 kills, 35 digs and four aces to lead the Orioles to a 23-25, 26-24, 25-20, 18-25, 15-10 win over Juda. With the win, Argyle improves to 12-7, 10-0 Six Rivers East. It's the second straight conference title for the Orioles.

"We can hang our heads high," Juda coach Scott Anderson said after the Panthers pushed Argyle to five sets. "We lost a heartbreaker. I think we proved we are in the top half of the conference without a doubt. It shows we have come a long way."

The match served as Juda's Pink Out cancer fundraiser. Anderson said $800 was raised for cancer research.

Argyle senior Kayla Butler-Paulson had a match-high 32 assists, 30 digs and four aces. Junior teammate Dorissa DeNure had four blocks and sophomore Jena Saalsaa added seven kills.

Juda senior Sara Jordan had 19 kills and 31 digs to lead the Panthers. Junior teammate Hailey Kammerer posted 10 kills and four blocks. Fellow senior Alexis Goecks had a team-high 31 digs. Junior MacKenzie Byrne had 20 assists, 27 digs and four aces. Senior teammate Chelsea Burkhalter added 18 assists.

With the loss, Juda drops to 9-8, 6-4 Six Rivers East.



Brodhead 3, Parkview 1

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead volleyball team got a lift with the return of junior Erin Nyhus and rolled to a four-set win over rival Orfordville Parkview on Thursday.

Brodhead sophomore Abbey Johnson had a team-high 21 kills and 23 assists to lead the Cardinals to a 25-9, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22 win over the Vikings. With the win, Brodhead improves to 6-3 Rock Valley South.

Brodhead junior Chandra Clark had 20 assists and Nyhus had a team-best four aces.



New Glarus 3, Abundant Life 0

MADISON - The New Glarus volleyball team breezed to a non-conference sweep of Madison Abundant Life.

New Glarus senior Devon Boll had five kills and came through with six aces to power the Glarner Knights to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-17 victory over Abundant Life. With the win, New Glarus improves to 4-23.

New Glarus senior Madison Perkins had 20 digs and junior Willow Lee added five kills. Senior teammate Olivia Woodmansee had seven assists and senior McKinley Righter posted two blocks.



Pecatonica 3, Albany 1

ALBANY - Pecatonica senior Liz Tisch delivered 14 digs and seven aces to lead the Vikings to a four-set win over Albany.

Both Pecatonica's Grace Keast and Taetum Pagel each had eight kills to propel the Vikings to a 25-19, 25-19, 16-25, 25-10 victory over the Comets.

Pecatonica's Ninah McKeon posted a team-best six blocks.

Albany senior Sayde McDermott had a team-high 13 kills to lead the Comets. Senior teammate Taylor Seffrood dished out nine assists. Albany's Kelsey Hoesly had 11 digs and sophomore teammate Libby Beck notched five aces.
