Big wins for Argyle, Darlington

BLANCHARDVILLE - The hitting and pitching for the Argyle softball team is starting to turn around as the Orioles beat Pecatonica, 13-5, Thursday for their second straight win.

"Walks, errors and illegal pitches just killed us," Pecatonica head coach Chuck Meyer said. "You name it, it happened."

Vikings pitchers combined to walk 14 Orioles in the game.

Jodi Fischer (2-for-4) and Jackie Dammen (2-for-5) each had triples for Argyle.

The Orioles overcame four errors to win the game. Argyle sophomore Kelsey Bartels gave up five earned runs on six hits, striking out nine and walking three.

Kaci Cassidy pitched five innings before being relieved by Ellie Gifford. Cassidy was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Gifford, Amanda Schoepp and Cassie Swenson also had two-baggers for the Vikings.

Brodhead 19, Palmyra-Eagle 0

PALMYRA - Brodhead pounded out 14 hits Thursday and rolled to a 19-0 win over Palmyra-Eagle.

Brodhead sophomore Erika Stampfli pitched a one-hit shutout in five innings. She struck out 10 and walked four.

Two Palmyra-Eagle pitchers combined to walk 11 and the Cardinals exploded for a 10-run second inning.

Brodhead had four players with multi-hit games led by Stampfli (3-for-4 with five RBI), Tia Collins (3-for-3 with two RBI), Leah Hegi (2-for-3 with three RBI) and Jordan Riese (2-for-4).

Fennimore 13, Darlington 3

FENNIMORE - Darlington couldn't overcome a landslide of fielding miscues Thursday as Fennimore handed the Redbirds a 13-3 loss.

The Redbirds were plagued by six errors. Darlington freshman Laura Steiner pitched two innings and gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits.

The Redbirds managed just four hits. Fennimore opened up a 9-0 lead after a seven-run second.

Waterloo 10,

New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS - The Knights were shutout Thursday in their third straight game this week, losing to Waterloo 10-0.

New Glarus sophomore Maegen Roselein pitched five innings and gave up seven hits; she struck out four. The Knights, who have 11 underclassmen playing this season, showed their youth with six errors in the game. New Glarus has been outscored 57-0 in three games this week.
