WALWORTH - The Monroe High School volleyball team's season came to an end with a three-set loss to Walworth Big Foot in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal match Tuesday.
Big Foot swept the Cheesemakers 25-11, 25-16, 25-17. Monroe finished the season 6-25 overall, 0-6 Badger South.
"Big Foot is a very good team, and we had our moments where we played right along with them," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said.
Big Foot, the Rock Valley South Conference champion, controlled the first set.
"Monroe started out slow in the first set, but going into sets 2 and 3 we picked up our game and started to figure Big Foot out," Witt said.
In the third set, the Cheesemakers took an early lead and stuck with the Chiefs until the final points.
Monroe sophomore Sydney Mathiason had seven kills and two blocks Junior Alicia Kuester had five kills and a team-high three blocks in the match. Junior Chloe Schroeder added five kills and two blocks.
Monroe senior Paige Murphy dished out a team-best nine assists, and junior Lexi Hilliard racked up a team-high eight digs.
Junior Hannah Neuenschwander had seven assists and senior Hannah Vetterli added six digs.
"We did some good things tonight with our blocking and playing smart at the net," Witt said. "We made some good hustle plays. I am very proud of the girls. They have improved so much throughout the season. We will continue to build on what they have accomplished this year going into next season."
