ARGYLE - Benton-Shullsburg was able to get their leadoff hitters on and capitalize Thursday night in a 6-0 win over Argyle.

Benton-Shullsburg scored in four different innings and their leadoff hitter reached base in three of those innings. Argyle had two leadoff walks and another leadoff error.

"When we messed up, they hit the ball hard," Argyle coach Chuck Bredeson said. "They're a very excellent team. They're undefeated, conference champs on their side. Could've been a two- or three-to-nothing game ... but we couldn't score."

Bredeson said that allowing their opponents leadoff man to score is a problem the Orioles are actively trying to rectify.

"We've been talking about it a lot lately," Bredeson said. "Every time we have a leadoff walk, it seems like that guy scores. We're learning that, and we talk about it all the time, and it's something we'll just have to get through. We're young."

Alec Treuthardt started on the mound for Argyle and gave up four runs on seven hits in his four innings of work. He was relieved by Kyle Olson, who pitched the final three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks.

Olson, Riley Ostby, and Colton Ploessl each had a single, accounting for the only Oriole hits.

Argyle (9-6, 8-6 Six Rivers East) plays at Potosi Friday, May 17.

Brodhead-Juda 4, Beloit Turner 3

BELOIT - Two days after losing 10-0 to Beloit Turner, the Brodhead-Juda baseball team turned things around and picked up their first win of the year.

Brodhead-Juda coach Tom Nipple said it was nice to get that first win out of the way.

"It feels great," he said. "The kids played well."

Brodhead-Juda struck quickly in the first inning when Derek Turner clubbed a three-run home run to give the Cards a 3-0 lead.

"Turner's three-run homer really gave us momentum to start the game," said Nipple.

Kyle Wescott went 2-for-4 at the plate and was the only Cardinal to pick up multiple hits.

Tyler Davis started on the mound for Brodhead-Juda and pitched all seven innings, giving up three hits and three runs (one earned).

"Tyler pitched great. He had a really good changeup. He kept them off balance," Nipple said. "They didn't hit the ball in the air in the outfield all game."

Brodhead-Juda (1-12) will look to build on Thursday's win today against Palmyra-Eagle.

Belleville 12, New Glarus 2

Belleville 12, New Glarus 2

NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Belleville by identical scores of 12-2.

New Glarus coach Ross Eddy said Belleville took advantage of some New Glarus errors in the third and fourth innings.

TJ Duerst started on the mound for New Glarus in game one and gave up 12 runs (six earned). At the plate, both Gavin Binger and Patrick Elzen went 2-for-3.

"Gavin's been coming up big in lots of conference games. He's playing well offensively, we just need to get him going a little bit on 'D'," Eddy said. "It was nice to see Pat get back on track. When he gets on, he's able to score from first. The more he gets on, the better off we'll be."

Game two was a closer affair for much of the game, but Belleville outburst in the seventh inning put the game out of reach.

Kyle Larson pitched the first six innings for New Glarus and gave up just three earned runs. After he was removed, Belleville's bats heated up.

"Kyle Larson was throwing really well. It got to the point where he was at the innings limit," Eddy said.

The Glarner Knights committed eight errors between the two games.

"It's been an issue we've had all year," he said. "The last couple games were a little better. We threw the ball around a little today. It's been getting better, we just have to stop the bleeding when it happens. Tonight we were not able to."

New Glarus (1-15, 0-10 Capitol South) plays Lodi Friday, May 17.
