BELOIT - With the playoffs looming, the Cheesemakers dropped a 6-2 loss to Beloit Memorial in their last game of the regular season.

Monroe started off with one run in the first inning, but near the bottom of the third, the Cheesemakers defense committed some costly errors as Beloit Memorial picked up the lead with four runs.

"Overall we played pretty well," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "We just had that one bad inning where we made a couple of errors."

Sophomore Jaron Kuester started the game for the Cheesemakers, pitching three innings before Lucas Neuenschwander came in for relief. Neuenschwander pitched two innings and gave up one run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one.

Offensively, Sean Saxby and Garrett Gogin each finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kuester and Carter Adkins were 1-for-3 as well.

Monroe (4-20, 1-11 Badger South) will play at Clinton in Tuesday's opening round of the playoffs.

"This was a good game to get everybody in before the playoffs," Huffman said. "It's also nice to have the (playoff) game right around the corner so your team doesn't have to sit around for a week and wait."
