Belmont's third-quarter scoring burst sinks Juda

JUDA- The non-conference game Tuesday between the Juda and Belmont girls basketball teams shaped up to be a showcase of two of the top players in Southern Wisconsin - Juda's Ellen Kiser and Belmont's Kailee Kamps.

The score was tied 20-20 at halftime, But Belmont seized control by outscoring the Panthers 21-5 in the third quarter and held Kiser to 10 points below her average in a 44-37 win.

Trailing 41-25 to start the fourth quarter, Juda (8-2) attempted a comeback by limiting the Braves to just three points but couldn't catch up.

"We dug ourselves into too deep of a hole in the third quarter," said Juda coach Curt Brown. "(Belmont) came out ready to play in the second half."

Senior C.J. Dunwiddie led the Panthers with 19 points. Senior Amber Ramos added seven points and Kiser, the Panthers' leading scorer at 16.6 points per game, was held to six points.

Kamps scored 17 points to lead Belmont.

Brodhead 60, Evansville 51

EVANSVILLE - Carly Mohns scored 16 points and Brodhead bounced back from its first loss of the season last week in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game Tuesday.

The Cardinals grabbed a 36-23 halftime lead, then maintained their lead through a sluggish third quarter in which both teams combined to score just 11 points.

Despite a 22- point outburst from the Blue Devils in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals came away with the win.

Sophomore Rachel Heller added 12 points and junior Mariah Ahrens had 11 for Brodhead.

The Cardinals withstood a 3-pointer barrage from Evansville freshman Brielle Greenleaf, who knocked down six from beyond the arc in scoring 22 points.

Lancaster 42, Monticello 32

LANCASTER - Lancaster held Monticello to just nine points in the second and third quarters in non-conference action.

Monticello (5-4) led 13-10 after the first quarter, but the Flying Arrows surged out in front 38-22 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Marissa Berg was the only player in double figures for Monticello with 14 points.

Lakeside Lutheran 62, New Glarus 45

LAKE MILLS - New Glarus hoped to reach the .500 mark, but fell to Lakeside Lutheran in a Capitol Conference crossover game.

The Glarner Knights trailed 10-9 after the first quarter, but the Warriors took a 29-18 lead into halftime and pulled away.

Junior Alexis Hanson scord 11 points and senior Alycia Atwell had 10 to lead New Glarus (3-4).
