BELMONT - Lane Kempf scored a game-high 17 points to power Belmont to a 70-50 win over Albany in a non-conference game Monday.

Belmont (3-1) led by just two points after the first quarter. The Braves broke the game open outscoring the Comets 24-8 in the second quarter to take an 18-point lead at the half. Kampf hit three of the Braves' eight 3-pointers.

"The energy level and attitude is not where I wanted it," Albany coach T.J. Zweifel said. "I will take the loss for this one. I didn't have them ready to play."

Albany's Mitchell Trow drilled three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high nine points. Albany junior teammate Tyler Dahl added eight points. The Comets made nine 3-pointers as a team, but it wasn't enough against the Braves.

Albany (1-3) will host Black Hawk in the Six Rivers East Conference opener Thursday.

"We have to put this game behind us and really worry about the conference season," Zweifel said. "That is what really matters."
