NEW GLARUS - The Argyle Beavers needed every strikeout it could get from pitcher Justin Crotty in a 3-2 win against the Tourists on Thursday night in Home Talent League action.

Crotty struck out 12 batters and allowed six hits in picking up the win.

"Justin did his job again," Argyle skipper Travis Erickson said. "He's been pitching some good games lately."

New Glarus' Vance Vlasak and Brandon Bayrhoffer combined to pitch a two-hitter, but four untimely errors cost the Tourists the win.

"We played well after we tightened up our defense," New Glarus player-manager Stein Rear said. "We had three errors in the second inning, and that led to two runs.

"Our pitchers threw well. They kept us close all game. Vance wanted to give us a few innings of work to get the rust off, and Bayrhoffer came in and pitched well," Rear said.

Vlasak pitched the first two innings before Bayrhoffer took over.

The Tourists collected six hits, but could cross just two runs in the game off of Crotty.

Rear, who went 2-for-3, drove in Cody Wirth in both the fourth and the sixth.

Argyle scored two runs in the second inning. Erickson walked to lead off the inning and went to third when New Glarus' Drew Moen overthrew first base on Mitch Pittz's sacrifice bunt. Mike Pittz brought in Erickson on a ground ball in which Mike Rear had an error. Two batters later, Lance Rossing hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Mitch Pittz.

Argyle's third run came in the top of the sixth. Bryan Ritschard singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Crotty's sac bunt moved Ritschard to third and Erickson clutched up with an RBI single.

New Glarus plays at Ridgeway on Sunday while Argyle travels to Verona.

"I hope our bats show up on Sunday, or else the game will be over quick," Erickson said.
