Baumans, Trotter power Juda to big victory against Albany

ALBANY - The Juda boys basketball team found its shooting touch when it mattered most and rolled to a 58-43 win over Albany on Thursday night.

Albany (8-12, 5-5 Six Rivers East) led 25-22 at halftime, but the Panthers turned it on outscoring the Comets 21-9 in the third quarter and 36-18 in the second half to seal the win.

"They weren't hitting their perimeter shots in the first half," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "When they started htiing their shots, we went into a drought. That put us behind the eight ball."

Juda junior Cole Bauman, who scored a game-high 14 points, hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter and Matt Trotter scored seven of his 12 points in the period to spark the Panthers.

Juda senior Brandon Bauman added 13 points. Albany (8-12, 5-5) was led by senior Gavin Ruef who scored a team-high 10 points.

Barneveld 59, Argyle 30

ARGYLE - Barneveld kept a one game lead over Monticello in the Six Rivers East, cruising to a big win over the Orioles.

Argyle (3-18, 0-10 Six Rivers East) trailed just 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and 28-17 at halftime.

The Eagles dominated the second half outscoring the Orioles 31-13.

"We felt pretty good about ourselves going in at halftime competitive," Argyle coach Brandon Bakken said. "I'm sure their coach got after them at halftime. They came out with a lot more intensity. We just couldn't match their intensity."

Senior Sam Nechkash scored a game-high 16 points for Barneveld (18-2, 9-1). Argyle senior Matt Ritchie scored nine points.

Brodhead 51, Palmyra-Eagle 35

BRODHEAD Senior Jesse DeLorme scored 14 points and Brodhead (13-6, 9-4 Rock Valley SOuth) outscored the Eagles 15-5 in the second quarter to build a 15-point halftime lead. Senior Trent Jordan added 11 points for the Cardinals, who made 18 of 29 free throws.

River Ridge 54, Pecatonica 42

RIVER RIDGE - Senior J.J. Hogan scored a team-high 12 points and Jon Hendrickson added nine for Pecatonica (4-16).

River Ridge outscored Pecatonica 19-11 in the first quarter and led by 11 points at halftime in the non-conference game.
