EVANSVILLE - Monroe sophomore Nick Baumann came one shot away from qualifying for the WIAA Division 2 state golf tournament.

Baumann tied for ninth place shooting a 79 at the WIAA Division 2 Evansville sectional Tuesday. Baumann tied Lodi's Adam Miller for ninth place.

"It's tough," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "What can you do? It's golf."

Lodi won the sectional team title 301-314 over Madison Edgewood. The top two teams qualify for state and the top three individuals not on one of the top two teams also qualify for state.

Monroe shot 334 as a team to tie Waupun for fourth place. Monroe senior Matt Miller finished tied with Waupun's George Lemmenes for 13th place (81).

"We were happy to be at the sectional for the second year in a row, but we are not satisfied," Rindy said. "We knew it would be tough with Edgewood ranked No. 2 in the state and Lodi. We were hoping to challenge for the No. 2 spot. We want to take that next step and get to state."

Monroe sophomore Devon Boeck carded an 88 and junior Tanner Thompson shot a 91.

Division 3

Argyle-Pecatonica sophomore Matthew Severson tied Melrose Mindoro's Logan Vaningan for sixth place (77) at the Division 3 Mineral Point sectional to qualify for state.

The Argyle-Pecatonica golf team finished fourth place (333). Mineral Point captured the sectional championship (314) to clinch a team berth to state. Lancaster finished second place (324) and also will be golfing at state as a team. Monrovia took third (330), which was three strokes better than Argyle-Pecatonica. Junior Mitchell Steiner took eighth place (78) and missed qualifying for state by one shot. Freshman teammate Mason Holcomb finished 19th (84). Fellow freshman Dylan Stietz rounded out the top four carding a 94.
