Baseball: Sibling rivalry won by Warriors

SHULLSBURG - Alex Abraham got the win and the crucial RBIs, but he'll gladly give credit to those who made Tuesday's 15-12 baseball rivalry win over Shullsburg possible.

The Black Hawk senior had a two-run single in the seventh that allowed extra innings and the game-winning two-run hit in the eighth, but the Warriors' final three batters in the order went 4-for-6 in the last two frames.

The 7-8-9 hitters started both rallies, senior Jake Kaempfer leading off both innings with singles.

Warriors coach Todd Strang didn't hide his pride in defeating his brother, Tim, who coaches Shullsburg. Even their 87-year-old grandfather turned out to throw the ceremonial opening pitch.

"It's a great rivalry," Todd Strang said. "We coach similarly and even use the exact same signs."

Taylor Goodman and Shane Jackson went yard back-to-back in the second to take a temporary 8-0 lead.

"Goodman's was just a bomb," Strang said.
