BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Warriors survived by Wolverines

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors tripped themselves up on the way to possibly upending a Division 1 club Saturday.

After falling, 12-1 in five innings, in the opener to Waterford, Black Hawk took a 6-2 lead into the sixth inning in the second game of the doubleheader before the Wolverines pouned on three Warrior errors to pull out the non-conference sweep.

CAPITOL SOUTH

MARSHALL 8-12, NEW GLARUS 2-2

New Glarus' workhorse got worked over in a doublheader sweep at the hands of Marshall Saturday.

Knights pitcher Zach Ketelboeter took the ball to start both games of the conference double-dip. The Cardinals used a 4-run fourth to pull away in the 8-2 opener before cruising, 12-2, in the second ballgame.

Marshall compiled 24 hits.

EDGERTON TOURNAMENT

Portage 8, Monticello 3

Edgerton 10, Monticello 9

The Ponies got out of the gates slowly in the first game at Saturday's Edgerton Tournament and couldn't keep up a brisk enough pace in the second game.

Monticello failed to push a run across in the first four innings of an 8-3 loss to Portage. Monticello staked starter D.J. McGowan to a 6-0 lead after a half inning in the second game before the Crimson Tide rolled four runs in during the bottom half. Edgerton added runs in the next four innings and held Monticello off in the ninth inning.
