HOLLANDALE - Even if they're still borrowing space away from their home diamond in Blanchardville, it's been a nice week to play baseball anywhere in the land of the Vikings.

Pecatonica defeated its third Six Rivers East opponent in four days by racking up six runs in the second inning and building an insurmountable 7-0 lead. The Vikings ended up with an 8-5 win.

"It's been three conference wins in four days against quality opponents, and the wins have come in a variety of ways," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said.

Thursday, Pec got past the Ponies by taking advantage of errors. After three Pony miscues and three Vikings hits in the second, senior Jordan Krebs hit a two-out, 2-run single.

Monticello southpaw Brandon Holz took the loss, as only three of the seven runs he let across were earned.

On just three days' rest, Andy Dieterich earned a second win by allowing five runs on just four hits through five innings.

Milton Kurschner not only was one of three Vikes to pick up two hits, he also earned a two-inning save.

"He threw strikes and that's something our pitchers have done a great job of so far," Strommen said.

Argyle 16, Darlington 15

Sean Leary isn't picky about how his club gets its victories.

Two nights after scoring 13 runs on just four hits in a 22-13 loss to Highland, the Orioles picked up another four knocks, but this time pulled out a non-conference victory in marathon fashion.

Thursday's game wasn't quite as long as Tuesday's three-hour marathon, but two of Argyle's hits were incredibly timely as the club rallied for seven runs to win walkoff style.

After a pair of walks, a hit batsman and two Redbird errors, junior Andy Bohlman hit an RBI-single. Two batters later, David Baertschi drew an RBI-walk before Matt Cash inside-outted the second pitch he saw to right field to plate Bohlman to tie and Kevin Berg to win.

Cash drew three walks.

"We've obviously been very patient as hitters and tonight guys clutched up when it mattered most," Argyle coach Sean Leary said.

The seven runs answered a 3-spot by Darlington in the top half.

Five Redbirds had multiple hits. Senior shortstop Cameron Ruef went a perfect 4-for-4 as Darlington outhit Argyle 14-4.
