ARGYLE - The Orioles took full advantage of some unforeseen home field advantge Tuesday night in a 4-1 victory over Pecatonica.
The ball game, formerly scheduled to be played in Hollandale where the Lady Vikings set up shop instead, was dominated by the left arm of junior Andy Bohlman and the steady defense behind him.
"By far our best overall performance," Argyle coach Sean Leary said.
Bohlman stuck with a steady diet of fastballs and curveballs to go the distance, striking out nine along the way.
Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said his usually-hot hitting club struggled the most with the yellow hammers.
"He kept his curveball down and we helped him out by going down after it," Strommen said.
Argyle got two hits from Kevin Berg and Mike Pittz and Bohlman worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the ninth with a strikeout and a groundout.
SIX RIVERS EAST
BLACK HAWK 11,
MONTICELLO 6>
Jason Pinnow's ears might still be ringing.
The Monticello skipper heard 16 hits leave Black Hawk bats as he had no choice but to stick with starter D.J. McGowan for the distance while the Warriors (5-3 Six Rivers East) continued their recent hot hitting.
"He reallly pitched well and I didn't have anyone else to go to," Pinnow said. "I told him I was going to ride him as long as I could."
After Monticello (2-5) rallied for four runs to tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth, Black Hawk erupted for five runs in the seventh.
The quietest hit was the deadliest as senior Jake Kaempfer laid down a textbook squeeze bunt toward third with the bases loaded and nobody out for the first run.
"I couldn't have stood out there and rolled it any better," Pinnow said.
BARNEVELD 11, ALBANY 4>
The Comets were eclipsed by an 8-ball they placed in their own way Thursday evening.
After losing by just a run to Barneveld at home weeks back, Albany committed costly errors early as Barneveld jumped out to a 9-0 lead through four innings.
Albany put together a four-run rally in the fifth as Jordan Dean collected three hits altogether.
ROCK VALLEY
CLINTON 11, BRODHEAD 4>
After three innings of running neck-and-neck with the hosting Cardinals, the Cougars reached into the closet for their hitting shoes late Thursday.
Clinton scored four runs in the sixth inning and added three more in the seventh to put away Brodhead. Keifer Cary led the charge with three hits and scored three runs for Clinton.
Adam Scheidegger and Tyler Welch contributed three hits for Brodhead in the losing effort.
SWAL
CUBA CITY 16,
DARLINGTON 5 (5 innings)>
The Cubans came out smoking Thursday evening.
Cuba City scored 16 runs and never looked back in a SWAL rout in Darlington.
Junior lefty Nik Geissbuhler provided the lone bright spot by jacking a two-run homer long gone to right field.
"That would have been out of any ballpark," Darlington coach Andy Sawall said.
