MONROE - Senior Evan Prust and Pecatonica coach Matt Fink received accolades for their surprise Six Rivers East Conference co-championship season with Barneveld.
Prust was named first-team Six Rivers East All-Conference and Fink was named the conference's coach of the year recently. Pecatonica went 17-8 and earned a share of the conference title with the Golden Eagles with an 11-1 mark in conference. Barneveld rolled to a 70-44 win over Pecatonica in a WIAA Division 5 regional championship game.
Prust was one of the most improved players in the conference and was the team's second-leading scorer (12.8 ppg). He really stepped up his scoring and playmaking after junior point guard Colton Schraepfer suffered an injury and missed about 10 games.
Barneveld senior Kauy Fargo was named the conference's player of the year. Fargo averaged 20 points per game, and led the Eagles to a sectional championship game where they lost to Deerfield 50-44 in overtime. The other first-team all-conference selections were Black Hawk junior Conner Meyer, Juda senior Keagen Haffele and Barneveld junior Malcolm Reed.
Meyer, who led Black Hawk to a 17-6 record and a third-place finish in the Six Rivers East, was named first team all-conference. Meyer averaged 18.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for the Warriors.
Haffele (19.7 ppg and 6.3 assists per game) was the top scorer for the Panthers this season. Haffele led the team in 3-point shooting with 21 3s and in 3-point percentage (38.9 percent).
The second-team all-conference selections were Argyle senior Brent Ritschard, Pecatonica's Schraepfer, Monticello sophomore Reece Rufer, Albany junior Josh Dahl and Black Hawk senior C.J. Leuzinger. Ritschard was the top scoring option for the Orioles averaging 15.5 points per game.
Schraepfer (15.1 ppg) was the leading scorer for the Vikings and helped them win the conference. Rufer (15.1 ppg) helped lead Monticello to a fourth-place finish in the conference at 9-13 overall and 6-6 in the Rivers East. The Ponies earned their first regional game in five years.
Dahl (16.4 ppg) was a catalyst for a young Albany team. The Comets finished 7-16, but were short-handed in the regional in a loss to Black Hawk. Leuzinger (12.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg) was part of a senior-laden Warriors team that finished third in conference. Leuzinger also averaged 1.3 steals per game.
A trio of Pecatonica players named honorable mention all-conference include juniors Zack Eaton, Jaden Hendrickson and Carter Ruegsegger. The two Juda players who received honorable mention honors include senior Cole Fortney and senior Jace Morris. The other honorable mention all-conference picks are Monticello senior Jon Errthum, Albany junior Corbin Kelley, Black Hawk senior Jason Treuthardt, Barneveld senior, Barneveld senior Jonas Ignatius.
