BARABOO - The Monroe Avalanche co-op boys hockey team lost its seventh straight game dropping a non-conference match to Baraboo-Portage 16-2 Thursday.

The Thunderbirds scored six goals in the first period and erupted for eight more goals in the second period.

Baraboo's Steven Mordini and Griffin Nicksic each scored three goals to post hat tricks. The Thunderbirds out-shot the Avalanche 67-4.

"We played really well the first period and kind of fell apart the second," Monroe coach Josh Smith said.

The Avalanche's Jared Kleckner scored a goal on an assist by Tyler Johnson at 13 minutes, 4 seconds in the third period. Then with 13 seconds to go, Johnson scored a goal on a backhand shot.

Avalanche goalie Dan Guilliams had 51 saves.

"We still have plenty to work on, but there's still improvement, even if it's slow improvement," Smith said.
