The Monroe Youth Hockey Association Squirts team (kids ages 9-10) lost their first game of the season on Saturday to Baraboo. Tessa Janecke scored Monroe's lone goal in the 3-1 defeat.
Payton Stauffacher stopped nine shots to keep the game close.
On Sunday the team rebounded with a 11-2 pounding of the Dubuque Stars. Monroe scored early and often as both Joe Wyss and Jamaar Manor had hat tricks (three goals) for the Avalanche. Other players scoring goals were Emma Ness, Travis Edmunds, Jared Cline, Cade and Tessa Janecke. Monroe dominated the entire game, out shooting Dubuque 43-12.
The Squirts record currently stands at 3-1-1 as they get ready to play at Stoughton on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. On Sunday, the Squirts host McFarland at 11:30 a.m. and then travel to Madison to play Waunakee at 3 p.m.
