WAUPACA - The Monroe Bantam 14-U team participated in the Bantam Ice Breaker tournament in Waupaca last weekend.
The Bantams took third place in the eight-team tournament.
Pee Wee A (12U)
The Pee Wee A had a busy weekend with three games all away. On Saturday, they played the Middleton Wings PeeWee A team but lost 6-2. The first goal scored by the Avalanche was by Cash Anderson after catching a pass from Seth Brandt. Anderson was waiting at the net, pounding his stick to show he was ready, when the pass came and he put it in the net. The second goal was scored by Brandt unassisted.
Breleigh Stuart chased down a breakaway, preventing another score by Middleton. The defense played a tough game despite being outsized. Miles Gordon had 44 saves in goal.
Sunday was a two-game day with Sauk Prairie PeeWee A winning the first game 5-1. The lone goal was scored by Brandt assisted by Dylan Lewis.
In the second game against Janesville PeeWee B, the Avalanche picked up a 9-2 win. Scoring for the Avalanche was Brandt with a hat trick, Lewis with two goals and Cole Buholzer, Cameron Newcomer, Evan Brendemuehl and Wyatt Janecke with a goal apiece.
Assists were made by Lewis with two, Brandt, Janecke, Stuart, Marlies Brandli, Gordon and Newcomer.
Cash Anderson was in net as goalie for the first time in two years and came away with four saves.
Pee Wee B (12U)
On Saturday, the Mighty Pee Wee B Avalanche headed north to take on Middleton and won 8-3. The Avalanche offense was led by Payton Hathaway, who accounted for five goals. Christian Carpenter and Gavin Roth contributed assists to the game. Other players that had goals for Monroe were D.J. Rath, Xander Obert and Ethan Rosenstiel.
The players passed the puck, keeping it out of their zone for a good portion of the game and having 35 shots on goal. The Avalanche defense held Middleton to 17 shots on goal, and goalie Kyle Theorin nabbed 14 of them to keep them out of the net.
The team is now 12-1 on the season and hosts South Central on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. at SLICE.
Squirt A (10U)
Monroe Squirt A started out Saturday morning in Dodgeville. The Avalanche worked hard with only eight skaters and ended the game in a 2-2 tie. Period one was scoreless. The Ice Wolves scored a goal in the second, but Monroe rallied to an exciting third.
Brady Stuart scored off an assist by Brody Koehn, but the Avalanche still trailed 2-1 in the final minute. The coaches pulled the goalie, and with 11 seconds left on the clock, Hans Brandt scored the game-tying goal assisted by Jace Daughenbaugh. Brock Brandli had 17 saves on the day.
Sunday started with a league game in Stoughton. The Avalanche were unstoppable, winning 14-0.
Scoring for Monroe was Koehn with seven goals and two assists, Stuart with three goals, Carter Nemergut with two goals and Landon Grindey and Ben Erdley with a goal apiece. Brandt had three assists, and Mia Diffenderfer also had an assist. Brandli had a shutout with four saves.
The second game of the day had Monroe traveling down the road to Oregon to face a tough Polar Caps A team. The Avalanche worked hard but couldn't overcome the speed and power of the Polar Caps and fell 9-0 to the Madison team.
Brandli had 34 saves.
Monroe Squirt A will have two home games next weekend at SLICE: They host Middleton Saturday, and they face Sauk Prairie Sunday.
Squirt B (10U)
On Saturday, Squirt B braved the cold weather and traveled to MIA to take on the Polar Caps.
It was a defensive game for the Avalanche as they were out-matched by the Polar Caps.
Satchel Moorman got a workout blocking pucks with 30 saves at the net. The Avalanche were short-handed, and Lane Schilt played up to help the team.
Squirt B tied Sauk Prairie Sunday at home, 4-4. This was an action-packed game as the score went back and forth throughout. The Avalanche did well stealing the puck and had several breakaways.
The score was 2-1 at the end of the first with goals scored by Logan Keleher (assisted by Owen Hicks) and Tysen Folgate. By the end of the second period, the score was tied 3-3 with a goal by Tre Dammen assisted by Brixen Dale. Dammen scored again in the third. Moorman had 22 saves.
Mites Cross (8U)
Mites Cross (8U) played last weekend in Janesville.
In the first of three games, Monroe played Janesville, Barrett Brandli scored a goal, and Lane Schilt was in at goalie.
In the second game, Monroe took on McFarland. Blake Folgate was in goal, and Brennan Goode and Schilt each scored goals.
In the third game, Monroe faced Beloit. Jaxson Daughenbaugh was in net, and goals were scored by Folgate, Clayton Downs and Marley Jones.
