MONROE - Last weekend the Mites (8U team) traveled to Stoughton for three games of cross-ice action. In Game 1, the Avalanche played Stoughton. In goal was Jaxson Daughenbaugh. Goals were scored by Lane Schilt, Marley Jones, Michael Santiago and Zane Picker.
The second game was against Verona. The goalie was Emma Janecke. It was a very defensive battle with no goals scored by the Avalanche.
The final game was against Janesville. Saving pucks between the irons was Brogan Hoelscher. One goal was scored by Schilt.
Squirt A (10U team)
It was a challenging weekend for Avalanche Squirt A last weekend, facing two strong area teams, the Madison Patriots Squirt A on Saturday and Verona Wildcats Squirt A on Sunday. Despite hard work, the Avalanche remained scoreless for the weekend. They fell to the Patriots, 6-0, with goalie Brock Brandli recording 30 saves. Verona topped the Avalanche 7-0, with Jace Daughenbaugh trying his hand at goalie with 13 saves.
This week Monroe has two league games, Dodgeville Ice Wolves Squirt A and Stoughton Vikings Squirt A.
Squirt B (10U team)
Last weekend Squirt B had two games on the road. On Saturday, the Avalanche took on Sauk Prairie.
Squirt B was short players and brought up Blake Folgate from the Mites to help out. This was a very evenly matched game as the score was tied 1-1 going into the third period.
Unfortunately, the Avalanche were unable to hold off Sauk Prairie. Satchel Moorman had 13 saves on the day and the only Avalanche goal was scored by Folgate on an assist by Tre Dammen.
On Sunday, the team traveled to Dubuque. The Avalanche played a lot of defense against the Jr. Saints. Moorman had 32 saves. The Avalanche were unable to get any goals on the board.
PeeWee B (12U team)
The Avalanche Pee Wee B team, wearing new jerseys, fired up and skated to an 8-2 win over Sauk Prairie.
The Avalanche had 49 shots for the game, and a hat trick was recorded by Payton Hathaway. Christian Carpenter and Easton Dreyfus added two goals each. Carson Kurschner led the team with four assists for a playmaker. Goalie Kyle Theorin had five saves.
On Sunday, the Avalanche played at the remodeled Madison Ice Arena and knocked off the Polar Caps 4-2.
The Polar Caps got on the board quickly. Dreyfus would tie it up, but the Polar Caps took the lead again in the second period on a nice wrister. It looked as though the Avalanche would be down 2-1 going into the third period, when Haden Barker scored with one second remaining to tie it up. Barker added another goal on an assist from Carpenter, and Gavin Roth would seal the deal with a goal of his own to end it.
The Avalanche had 36 shots on goal. Goalie Xander Obert had 8 saves in the victory pushing their record to 11-1 on the season. The PeeWee B team plays at Middleton at 1:10 p.m. Saturday.
PeeWee A
It was a busy and great day for the PeeWee A team on Saturday. First up was a home game against the Rockford PeeWee 2. The Avalanche came away with a 5-2 win.
Seth Brandt scored a hat trick while Carson Buholzer and Cash Anderson had one goal each. Assists were recorded by Evan Brendemuehl with two and Wyatt Janecke with one. With some changes done on the lines to shake things up a bit, the defense had another great game as did Miles Gordon, who recorded 27 saves.
The coaches kept the line changes for the second game when the Avalanche traveled to Madison and skated to a 9-3 win over the Madison Polar Caps B team.
Brandt scored four goals. Anderson had a hat trick, and Dylan Lewis and Brendemuehl each had one goal apiece. Assists were posted by Brendemuehl with four, Brandt with two and Anderson with one.
Gordon had another great game in the net with 33 saves.
On Sunday, the Beloit PeeWee A team knocked off the Avalanche. The Avalanche were hoping to avenge an earlier loss and felt confident the home ice advantage would help, but the Avalanche fell to Beloit 7-1. The lone goal for the Avalanche was scored by Wyatt Janecke.
