MONROE - The Avalanche U18 tied Joliet, Ill., Sunday afternoon, 3-3.
Ron Draves scored the first goal of the game with 13 minutes, 27 seconds left in the second period, putting Monroe up 1-0. Brandon Mortimer was credited with the assist.
Joliet came back to score two-straight goals in the frame, putting the Avalanche behind 2-1.
Mortimer tied the score at 2-2 after taking a pass from Taylor Riese and putting the puck beyond Joliet's goalie with 1:24 left in the second period.
In the third, Joliet got on the board first with 10:30 remaining.
Three minutes later, Ian Zimmerman scored the final goal of the night for Monroe off of an assist from Drew Geissbuhler and Matt Bush.
"We've got a good couple of games coming up," Monroe coach Dan Moats said.
The Avalanche travel to Skokie, Ill., this weekend for a pair of games. The first game will start at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, and at noon Sunday.
