Avalanche U12 girls finish third

MONROE - The Avalanche U12 girls hockey team took third place in the Avalanche Shootout at SLICE Jan. 28-29.

The Jr. Fury from the Janesville and Beloit area won and the U14 Viroqua Thunder was second.

The Avalanche opened play with an 8-0 loss to the Jr. Fury.

The Avalanche rebounded to defeat Viroqua 2-1 on goals by Tessa Janecke and Emma Ness, assisted by Sara Nicholas and Alyssa Knauf. Goalie Jenna Schmerbach had 20 saves.

The Avalanche posted a

3-3 tie and lost a shootout against Beaver Dam's U14 squad. Cammi Ganshert scored from the blue line in the first period to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead, and Janecke and Ness also scored. Schmerbach had nine saves.

In other action, the U12 Avalanche girls lost 3-2 to the U12 DC Diamonds on Friday, Jan. 27. Janecke scored two unassisted goals in the game and Schmerbach finished with 46 saves.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the Avalanche U12 girls defeated Beaver Dam U14 by a 4-0 count. Janecke recorded a hat trick and Anika Einbeck also scored. Janecke, Haley Knauf (two), Rebekah Rath and Alyssa Knauf had assists.
