VIROQUA - The Avalanche U12 boys and girls Squirt hockey teams won three of four games against the Viroqua U14 Thunder on Sunday.
The boys squad swept a pair of games, winning 7-0 and 11-2 while the Avalanche girls won 3-2 in the opener and fell 6-3 in the second game.
Joe Wyss and Broc Kuberski each scored two goals and Travis Edmunds, Cade Janecke and Luke Kuberski each had one in the opener for the boys. Heath Bear made six saves.
In the second game, Edmunds scored four goals, Wyss three and Janecke two, while Payton Stauffacher and Riley Jones each netted one.
The Avalanche girls received the game-winning third-period goal from Tessa Janecke, who was assisted by Cammi Ganshert, in their opener. Janecke also scored in the first period and Emma Ness scored in the second period. Goalie Jenna Schmerbach had 11 saves.
In the second game, Ness scored twice and Tessa Janecke once for the Avalanche while Schmerbach had 21 saves.
Avalanche Mites second at Beloit
BELOIT - The Avalanche Mite squad finished second in a five-team invitational at Beloit recently, falling to the Janesville J-Hawks in their opener but then beating the Beloit Blades, the Barrington (Ill.) Red Wings and the Blades again.
Lilah Bauer, Roman Bauer, Alvin Buholzer, Blaze Janecke, Anna Malone, Gabriel Ness, Colton O'Connor, Ty O'Connor, Rebekah Rath, Hayden Roth, Aiden Runkle, Robert Schroeder and Ryan Molitor all contributed.
